Frequently Asked Questions

How long does PMU last?

Depending on your skin, health, and if you come for touch-up refreshers, your tattoo will last from 2-5 years.

Factors that will cause your semi-permanent tattoo to fade faster include oily skin, retinol or vitamin c deficiency, iron deficiency, prolonged sun exposure and prolonged exposure to salt water.

What can I expect from my appointment?

We begin by mapping out your new lip/brow design using various measuring techniques to create symmetry. Then we select the perfect colour for each client's unique skin type. We may test the chosen colours on the skin prior to the treatment as well.

After receiving confirmation that my clients are happy with their new shape and colour, I then proceed with the treatment. A highly effective numbing solution is applied to the treated area to minimize discomfort; my priority is to ensure that all my clients feel as comfortable as possible, and rest assured that they are in great hands!

When we are all finished with the appointment, I carefully go through all required after-care protocols and send my clients home with a moisturizing ointment to apply over the following week to ensure a flawless healing process.

Note; for lip blush treatments, swelling may occur and will reduce within 24 hours. The colour of your new tattoo will fade 40-60% softer as well.

Will I require a touch-up?

Touch-ups are highly recommended to allow your artist to track your healing progress, and make any necessary adjustments to the shape or colour based on the healed results.

Your skin type, age and lifestyle plays a key role on how quickly your tattoo may fade. For example; tattoos on oily skin with larger pores will typically last two years whereas tattoos on dry skin with little to no pores may last up to three or more years.

Is it painful?

Every individual has a different level of pain tolerance. In most cases, clients are completely comfortable (some have nearly fallen asleep) during the appointment as a highly effective numbing solution is applied to the treated area. You may experience slight discomfort, oftentimes compared to a light scratch. Clients may take pain medication prior to their treatment to minimize discomfort as well.

How long does PMU last?

Semi-permanent makeup will last up to 3-5 years. Our luxury, skin-safe and water-based pigments contain molecules that will break down over time and fade evenly, without leaving harsh patches in the skin. It is recommended that our clients come in for an annual touch-up to maintain a good shape and colour. However, the frequency of touch-ups depend on a number of factors including your skin type, lifestyle (sun exposure), iron deficiency (your body absorbs iron-oxide as a supplement), and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas.

Can I get lip blush if I have cool-toned or dark lips?

Yes, clients who have cool/dark lips may receive lip blushing however, you may require neutralization treatments before getting lip blush done. Neutralizing may take a few sessions. If you are unsure if you have dark or cool-toned lips you may send me a photo of your lips in bright, natural light to confirm.

Will I require a touch-up?

Touch-ups are required 8-12 weeks after your initial treatment, and recommended annually to keep the shape and colour looking fresh.

Can I still get lip blush if I have lip filler?

Yes! Lip Blushing is a great addition/alternative to lip fillers. Lip fillers do not interfere with the healing process or results of your lip tattoo. Please note, lip filler and lip blush appointments MUST be a minimum of 2 weeks apart from each other to avoid disrupting the healing process of your tattoo.

Many clients typically do not realize how much lip they really have until their borders are defined with the tattoo. This often eliminates their desire to get fillers, as lip blushing creates the illusion of fuller-looking lips.

Who should avoid PMU?

You may want to avoid PMU if:

  • You are pregnant/breastfeeding.

  • You have been on acne medication within the past year.

  • You have HIV, Hepatitis or any other infectious or viral disease.

  • You are undergoing chemotherapy.

  • You are epileptic.

  • You are taking medications that may affect how your skin responds to blood clotting and healing.

How can I prepare for my treatment?

  • Do not consume caffeine and alcohol for 24 hrs prior to your appointment.

  • Do NOT TAKE Ibuprofen or Vitamin E as they are blood thinners unless medically necessary, 24 hrs prior to your procedure.

  • Avoid exercising the day of the procedure.

  • Avoid chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, retinol, fish oil, at least 4 weeks before your appointment.

  • Do not get lip injections 2 weeks before and after this treatment.

Can you cover an old tattoo?

Please send an email to NATLISCHINSKI@GMAIL.COM with a photo of your lips in bright, natural light to confirm if you are eligible for a cover-up appointment. Please do not wear makeup in the photo.

Does PMU trigger cold sores?

This procedure may trigger cold sores for carriers of the herpes simplex virus. To prevent cold sores from flaring up, it is highly recommended to obtain an antiviral prescription from your family doctor to take one week prior to the procedure, the day of, and one week after.

Note; a cold sore outbreak may alter the healed results of the tattoo, so obtaining your antiviral prescription and following the above procedures is absolutely recommended if you are a carrier of the herpes simplex virus.

Can you overline my lips?

Yes, however, I may only outline the lips a maximum of 1 mm. The skin on the lips is not the same as on the face and may look unnatural or heal unpredictably when tattooed too far past the natural lip line.

Many clients typically do not realize how much lip they really have until their borders are defined with the tattoo. This often eliminates their desire to get fillers as well, as lip blushing creates the illusion of fuller-looking lips.

Is PMU hypoallergenic?

As someone with highly sensitive skin, I prioritize using vegan, and cruelty-free products that are made from only clean and hypoallergenic ingredients that are suitable for all skin types.
